Ministry of Health Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Health is the central government’s apex organisation for the subject of healthcare services in the country. The Ministry embarked on the digitalization of healthcare services nearly 15 years ago. To achieve the full potential of digital health can offer, the ministry embarked on development of a National Digital Health Architecture Blueprint and a roadmap in the recent past.

Work on putting digital health blueprints into practice

  • Sri Lanka went on a drive to develop a more cohesive Digital Health ecosystem within the state healthcare services. In the journey, there were many factors that contributed to Sri Lanka’s journey so far. To mention a few;
  • The digital health capacity development with Master’s and Doctoral programmes in digital health.
  • AeHIN support for capacity building in TOGAF, HL7 FHIR and PRINCE 2 Project management.
  • Global Fund support for securing International Technical Assistance for enhancing the National Digital Health Architecture Blueprint
  • Funding for the establishment of key digital health building blocks with international donor support
  • Close collaboration with the National ICT apex agency
  • Some of these experiences could help other countries regionally and globally in their quest for better digital health
