Putting blueprints into practice

Real-time Vaccination and Monitoring Analysis (RT-VaMA) is a digital toolkit comprising Open Data Kit (ODK) form templates, dashboards, and other supplementary knowledge resources to quickly deploy real-time monitoring in immunization campaigns. It ensures data-driven immunization response.

The toolkit is used for data collection, aggregation, and visualization in an immunization campaign. Overall, RT-VaMA enables fast, responsive, and predictive decision-making. To address the gaps in paper-based monitoring, we see the value in adopting Real-time monitoring (RTM), which accelerates the collection, sharing, analysis, and interpretation of immunization data in real-time using digital devices with specialized software applications. Implementing RTM can enhance the quality of vaccination campaigns by providing a platform to review progress against targets, identify issues and gaps, and track vaccine sessions to make quick decisions about corrective actions. RTM ensures data-driven decision-making in immunization campaigns.

One of the tools that can be used for RTM is Real-time Vaccination Monitoring and Analysis (RT-VaMA). At its core, RT-VaMA allows daily tracking of vaccine stock availability, allocation, distribution, and utilization. Furthermore, it can customize data collection forms for immunization based on the requirements of the health ministry.

It uses Open Data Kit (ODK) technology to allow data collection on Android devices and other devices via web browsers, even in areas without the internet. Once data is submitted, it can quickly reach decision-makers through a visualized dashboard to make course corrections and address implementation bottlenecks.

RT-VaMA also helps reduce inequity by encouraging distribution to remote populations that ordinarily would not have access to immunization services.
